Godfrey & Kahn is known as a firm that serves clients engaged in mergers and acquisitions, commercial litigation, distribution, marketing and licensing matters, consumer protection issues, intellectual property protection, and many other areas. Central to much of this advice has been the firm's extensive experience in antitrust, trade regulation and consumer law. In 2002, the firm created a specialized practice group that leads the firm's resources in this area. The focus of this group is to provide our clients with comprehensive advice on these issues, given the often severe penalties of the antitrust laws, but keep the advice innovative and business-friendly. Of course we will vigorously prosecute the claims of our clients, or defend our clients against the claims of others, in antitrust and trade regulation litigation. The ultimate goal is to assist businesses in implementing successful and profitable business strategies.

The team is chaired by Kevin O'Connor, who has more than twenty years of experience in antitrust, trade regulation, and consumer litigation and counseling at both the state and national level. He is the co-author of extensive national enforcement guidelines dealing with mergers and product distribution issues as well as joint investigations by the federal agencies and the state attorneys general. Other members of the team include former federal prosecutors with experience in criminal antitrust prosecutions, mergers and acquisitions business lawyers experienced with complex Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) filings, and litigators with experience in class actions.
