When Dudley Godfrey, Jr. and Jerry Kahn founded Godfrey & Kahn in 1957, they had a vision and a passion for achieving their clients' goals. They began their careers by providing tax and estate planning advice to individuals and business owners. As their reputation for client service and professionalism grew, the firm began to represent the businesses and ventures these individuals managed and owned.

This dynamic tradition of client service and success was also established in Madison. Philip LaFollette was three-term governor of Wisconsin in the 1930s. He and Gordon Sinykin first discussed establishing a new law firm while serving on General Douglas MacArthur's staff in the Philippines. Upon returning to Madison in 1945, they established their law firm-LaFollette Sinykin, LLP. That firm's tradition of excellence helped shape Madison's legal community and continues to guide Godfrey & Kahn today.
